Financial Assistance

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through Columbus State University. If your are interested in obtaining one of these assistantships, you should contact the Dean of Science, Dr. George Stanton.
Teaching Assistantships pay a stipend as well as a waiver of tuition and fees (except for a small administrative fee) for the academic year. You will be obligated to assist and/or teach between 15 and 19 hours per week in the undergraduate areas of your expertise.
Teaching assistantships support graduate students with a $500 stipend (and a reduction of tuition to $25 per semester for a full load). Normally graduate students will be allowed to hold TA positions for up to four semesters.
Research Assistantships pay a stipend as well as a waiver of tuition and fees (except for a small administrative fee) for the duration of the research project. Research assistantships are available, from time to time, through grants and contracts to individual faculty. You should contact individual faculty in areas of your research interest to determine availability.
Research assistantships currently pay stipends of between $700 and $1000 per month (and a reduction of tuition to $25 per semester for a full load). The duration of the assistantship is variable, depending upon the contract duration.
Internship/Co-op programs are available through several local and regional agencies. In most cases, internship or co-operative programs require some combination of alternating full-time work with the agency and full-time attendance in the graduate program. Usually the supporting agency provides tuition support in addition to salary support. Contact the Director of the program to determine availability.
Currently, Georgia Power Corporation offers an internship in their Environmental Remediation division. Students are provided a stipend of $800 per month (and a reduction of tuition to $25 per semester for a full load) while working full-time in environmental remediation with Georgia Power for one semester. The stipend is continued for the three subsequent semester while the student completes his/her thesis research based on Georgia Power advise.
Questions regarding admissions, research and teaching assistantships should be directed to the Dean of Science, Dr. George Stanton, at (706) 568-2056 or stanton_george@colstate.edu.
